The first step in the admissions process is to ensure you’re on track to complete both the course prerequisites & application requirements in time to apply for your preferred year of entry.

Communications Qualifier
- English composition, public speaking and writing courses will be accepted
- May be taken outside U.S. in countries who's native language is English (e.g. Canada, Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand, British West Indies etc.)
Statistics Qualifiers
- Must be an introductory statistics course
- Probability statistics, biostatistics, elements of statistics and psychology statistics courses will be accepted
Psychology Qualifier
- Introductory psychology, general psychology and developmental psychology will be accepted
- If anatomy and physiology are combined, we will accept a minimum of 5 semester units.

- All prerequisites must be completed at a regionally accredited U.S. institution (exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis) or its equivalent abroad
- All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of “C” or better (a grade of “C-” or lower is not acceptable)
- All prerequisites must be completed by the end of the spring term prior to matriculation
- Prerequisite may not be taken on an advanced-placement, pass/no pass or credit/no credit basis
- All coursework taken from non-US institutions (including Canada) must be submitted to an approved service for evaluation

If you’d like to find out whether the courses you’ve taken or plan to take will satisfy WesternU’s MSN-Entry prerequisites you can:
- search the prerequisite database by institution.
- if your courses aren't listed in the database and you have a few courses in question, you may submit a prerequisite verification form.
- if your courses aren't listed in the database and you have numerous courses in question, or simply wish to lay out your coursework, you may instead print and submit an academic worksheet. Academic worksheets will be reviewed May 1st through September 30th.
Admission Requirements
- Completion of prerequisite courses as outlined above
- Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a regionally accredited U.S. institution
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (last 60 semester or 90 quarter units)
- Access to a computer meeting minimum technical standards
- Test of English language proficiency is required for all applicants submitted coursework from foreign schools. Test scores must be valid within 2 years from the time of application. The following exams will be accepted:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Internet Based Minimum Score: 80
- Computer Based Mimimum Score: 213
- The test of English language proficiency will be waived if you meet one of the following criteria
- You are a permanent or temporary resident of the U.S. and have completed six semester units of the communication requirement from a regionally accredited U.S. institution
- You have a confirmed bachelor's degree at the time of application from a regionally accredited U.S. institution
- International applicants or any other applicants who are not U.S. citizens and who are living in the U.S. should be prepared to provide proof of legal U.S. residency at the time of interview.
