Student Life

Many students are involved in WesternU’s clubs and organizations.  The 70+ organizations range from cultural and religious clubs to nationally affiliated professional organizations to interest groups such as the Triathlon Club, Pomona Community Health Action Team (PCHAT) & Humor As Medicine Club (HAM).

International Culture ShowInternational Culture Show
Students from all programs and cultures take part in the International Medicine Club’s annual Culture Show.

Guests celebrate their own and other’s cultures by watching a beautiful cultural fashion show and traditional Indian and Asian dances as well as through a great variety of cultural foods.

Proceeds from the event are used to fund student travel to such countries as Ghana and Spain, and to defray the cost of hosting aspiring health professions students from these and similar countries.

Theater Troupe:  SANUS
Cast Photo from "Sorry! Wrong Chimney!"WesternU is one of the only graduate health professions schools with a theater troupe:  SANUS!  Faculty and students act side-by-side in the SANUS annual play which is always a big hit!  This year’s play is "Sorry! Wrong Chimney!" by Jack Sharkey and Leo W. Sears.

At this event and others like it, you’ll always find faculty, students, deans and often President Pumerantz and his wife, Harriett, supporting our students co-curricular activities.

Getting Involved in Clubs & Organizations
You’ll have an opportunity as a new student to scope out all the clubs at Club Day in the fall and Extravaganza in the spring.  Students, faculty and staff pack the promenade at these annual events to learn more about and support the various clubs and organizations on campus.

Sumo

At Extravaganza you can, among other things, sumo wrestle your classmates, toss “cow pies” at faculty, and “dunk your professor” in the dunk tank!

Club members also sell a variety of things at the event including ethnic food, snow cones, boba milk tea, desserts, and even plants to raise funds for their organization!

Student Government Association (SGA)
The SGA not only serves as the voice for students across programs, they also continue the tradition of compassion and service to the community through such events as Santa’s Workshop.

Santa’s Workshop is the SGA’s annual trademark event.  Over 150 disadvantaged children and their foster families visit the WesternU campus to enjoy a day of caroling, arts and crafts, and games with volunteer students and staff.

Pomona merchants donate food and game prizes, and WesternU students, faculty and staff purchase a gift from each child’s wish list.

Santa's Workshop
“The whole campus really pitches in to pull this event together.  Last year we had more volunteers than children!” says SGA Executive President, Siem Woldemariam.  “It was touching to see how their eyes lit up and how excited they were to receive their gift from Santa and Mrs. Claus!”

Southern California Hot Spots
Our students sometimes find time to sneak away to one of Southern California’s many amazing sites and events!  Whether you want to catch a Lakers, Dodgers or Anaheim Ducks game, take in a museum, enjoy a million person concert, spend a day at Disneyland or Magic Mountain, or even take a weekend trip to Las Vegas, Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, Yosemite National Park or Sea World, you can do it all from Pomona, CA!

Watch the student life video to get a sense of life on campus or visit our hot spots page to explore your opportunities and their distance from WesternU’s campus.
